Mid-January: High Hopes for Reading? Still?

For many valid reasons, I haven't read as much as I'd like in the past two weeks of January. I will be able to weigh in on the next chunk of Ivanhoe  tomorrow, but I'm so disappointed I'm not plowing through more books. I have had many projects on my plate--and not all of my choosing, which can be annoying to any reader.

I'm enjoying The Bat by Jo Nesbo, the first in the Harry Hole series, published in Norway way back in 1997 and published here only last year, I believe. I bought it for the Nook during a huge sale last fall, so I'm reading it as part of my TBR Triple Dog Dare. I like being in Australia in January! Hot as hell, a welcome contrast, though I love winter with a passion.

I want to move on to White Fang by Jack London soon as well as Night Watch by Sarah Waters, two more of my dying-to-be-read TBR pile books.

I desperately need a Read-a-Thon. Perhaps I'll need to declare one for myself this weekend. How 'bout you?

  1. I too get in these times when other people are creating work for me. Sounds like you need a weekend away or something. Someone just gave me a beautiful copy of White Fang last week. Funny I should see it mentioned. I did a great post on Jack London's home in November if you're interested. It is in northern Calif. and I was there visiting my sister (from Tassie)

    1. Hi, Pam,
Actually, what I need is a weekend at home with no distractions. I am traveling next weekend, to be maître d' of my mother's 90th birthday party with a very large cast of first and second cousins. It should be fun, but I'm not the suavest of party planners. Should be fun to reconnect with the vast, extended family, though!
Yes, I read your post about your trip to Jack London's home. Fascinating.
When might you think of reading White Fang, by the way. And did you see the American film not that long ago?

  2. The Bat was quite enjoyable, I thought; I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

There is a Winter Wishes R-a-T on the weekend after this. Not that a personal R-a-T isn't fun, too, but something it's nice to have company, and they are an enthusiastic and well-organized bunch. Good luck with the rest of your reading month!

    1. The next book, I believe, is Cockroaches, which crimepieces has so recently written about, but it's not available here yet, as far as I know. But I do want to read that one next, because it's reported to be excellent and is the next one after The Bat.
How I wish I could do a Read-a-thon next weekend. I'm traveling to Boston to be host to my mother's 90th belated birthday with a large, large number of cousins. I'll be in need of a Read-a-thon after this event I'm in charge of, believe me!
