What to Do about Blogger? A Suggestion!

This evening I tried and tried to find a way to communicate with Blogger.
As I'm sure you all know, communication with them is not encouraged.
However, I did post our problems to this URL: https://gethuman.com/help/Blogger-com

I strongly encourage you, if you truly want to continue to use Blogger, to report to them the problems you've experienced. I have, in spades.

The PORN spam  I'm receiving each day is increasing exponentially. The other problems with  posting and the like, well--I'm not sure how helpful they will be. BUT, and this is a bit BUT, Blogger can't continue if everyone is  facing problems as we have.

I will continue until  it is impossible. I will definitely let you know if I abandon Blogger for WordPress. So...things are getting worse by the day, and I wish you all well. I am leaving my email address here for those who can figure it out.  If not, please email Katrina at Pining for the West.

Email me at judith   e   harper  at   gmail    All one word. Lower case fine.  Best wishes to you all!

  1. Judith, I am finding the NEW Blogger super frustrating as well and reported a few issues. I'm using old blogger as long as possible as a result. If I find new blogger too frustrating I may just give up blogging and post my reviews on GoodReads only.

I was getting all that porn spam as well but, deleted a few suspect new followers and now moderate every comment and the spam has stopped. So annoying.

I'll be curious if your concerns are addressed.

    1. Hi Diane,
Thanks for your reply. I don't have followers that I'm aware of, though I'll check for that.
The reply I received today was a clueless automated reply that indicated that no human read the complaint. However, it did indicate that 239 other people are having problems.
I was not at all encouraged by the type of reply I received.
Diane, I would miss you so very much if you stopped blogging--help! Of course, I would not want to stop you if that's what you truly wanted to do.
Are you at all interested in giving WordPress a try? I might, because I don't want to stop blogging about books, etc.
If you do decide to give up on blogging, maybe I can give you my email address, and we could stay in touch about books that way. Would hate to lose you!

    3. Diane,
I'm so glad you'd like to continue our conversation about books. Let's see what happens.

  2. I was not happy to have blogger change but yesterday found out how to moderate comments, as I have always done. I haven't written a post with the new blogger, and wonder how it works. I haven't gotten any porn spam and hope I don't.

    1. Hi Terra,
Actually, I used the new Blogger for at least a month and was okay. Then everything stopped working, and I mean everything. You may make out okay, but I'm very concerned at this point.

  3. sorry about your problems with Blogger. I started my blog on Blogger but changed to WordPress a few years ago - I found it difficult on Blogger to add photos in the right place and I find WordPress is much better - I pay for it, but there is a free version too. This year WordPress updated the editor and I did find it difficult at first - and talked to another user which helped me - and eventually I 'got it' and now I find it's good!

I hope Blogger sorts out all the problems soon - it's a shame when things are working well and then they 'upgrade' it.

By the way I still haven't made an appointment at the optician - or the hairdresser.

    1. Hi Margaret,
One good thing about WordPress is that they have VIABLE help available. If this thing with Blogger does not resolve, that's where I'll be headed. I'm not going to stop blogging because Blogger is making my book blogging life miserable!
And Margaret, my HAIR is so long--I don't know what to do, except maybe hacking away at it with scissors. Gads!

    2. Well I am happy with WordPress and have had support from them when I have had a question. My son used to help me with Blogger and my internet provider - now it's all done by WordPress I don't have to keep asking him questions!

Fortunately I'd had my hair cur quite short not long before lockdown so although it's now a bit out of control I think it just need a tidy up - and I like it longer.

    3. Margaret,
So good to know of your success with WordPress. I am listening!

  4. I'll be honest I haven't tried since my last post. I've left it on the legacy interface for the time being. I'm at the stage where I only have to think about my blog or doing a post and a gloomy feeling washes over me. I've never felt like this about blogging before and I resent them doing this to me. I know that sounds selfish but I really do. Thanks for the link for where to post the problems. I couldn't see how to do it before but will try again. Thanks for all your help with this Judith. *So* many people hate this new interface, surely they have to listen or they will lose the majority of their bloggers!

    1. Hi Cath,
I don't think you sound selfish at all. Our blogging has been a lifeline.
I'll be doing a wait and see routine, but I will move to WordPress if things go on too badly for too long.
I received a reply and my issues clearly had not made it through to a human. They may never reach a human. I do know that WordPress provides support for their product.

  5. I've certainly not had any problems with Wordpress but I'm sure that Joan Kyler gave up blogging ages ago because of problems with Blogger.

    1. Oh, Katrina--Do you use WordPress? I didn't know what platform you use. How nice to know. Thank you for posting about this.

  6. I am also very irritated and frustrated. I wasted so much time trying to manipulate the images and get rid of extra spaces. Then after my post was published, I tried to fix one word and I kept getting the HTML version! Last semester I had to use Wix for an assignment and I found it so simple and professional. I think there is a free version. I certainly didn't pay to do this project. Admittedly, this was a simple project but look: https://constancemartin.wixsite.com/bletchley-park/basics However, Wix has a way to transfer Wordpress sites but not Blogger.

  7. I have stuck with legacy for now, but I do know there will come a time when that is no longer going to work.

    1. Sigh! Marg, as with every single thing in our world these days, who knows exactly what will happen?
Do keep us informed as to where you end up in the end!

    1. Thanks for the interesting link. I think, based on my prior experience with WordPress for other things, that I'll probably gravitate there, if Blogger fails.

  9. Hi Judith, I just got a new post out and for the most part inserting images worked, which has been the only real problem I have had.

I did have problems with the images, they would not center. I got two together and I liked that, but I don't know how I did it. It was accidental.

I am going to try writing down every problem I have with images and then post feedback under the help on Blogger.

For the time being, I am just going to be calm and take what comes with Blogger when I am working in it and see if they fix the problems. I don't want to move to something else right now. But I would consider WordPress if things never get better.

It is good to have a place to complain about this. So thanks for that.

  10. I've been on Blogger since I started blogging in 2008. I tried WordPress at one point but never could get the hang of it.

You are right, the porn spam is horrific, but other than that I haven't had any issues.

Hope you are able to resolve your issues. The few times I tried to ask questions about Blogger I seemed to get nowhere.

    Good luck!

  11. Wow, sorry to hear that! I really hate the way that large tech companies, while making billions of dollars in profit, refuse to provide even basic customer service. I hope you get the issues resolved soon. If not, I highly recommend WordPress (although I know that changing and starting fresh is probably not something you'd want to do lightly).
