    1. It is so comforting to have friends commiserate over the loss of a special friend. For dogs are the most special of friends, as are cats for those who love cats.

      I had an inkling something not good was up about three weeks ago today. She had a very bad day, did not want to move, and slept all day and night. Then Monday came and she bounced out of the bedroom friskily. The vet couldn't find anything wrong a few days later.
      But an even worse day came last Tuesday morning and I knew it was the end. All the Goldens (3)(and one Lab) that we've had have died of cancer.

      I know that there is genetic work being done with Goldens and Labs. Some vet geneticists are trying to mark the gene that causes these cancers, which are so widespread in both breeds. The hope is that one day dogs carrying the gene won't be bred.
      Goldens are such wonderful companions--obedient, super-affectionate, and smart. That's why we keep going back for more...
