Our foul weather has put me in a daze--It took us three days to deal with the heavy, wet concrete of 28 inches of snow. Have never seen anything like it! Impossible to deal with. We had to call in reinforcements! Now, Monday, we finally managed to get out after three days locked in. All of this to say that I'm way behind in responding to all of your comments. Tomorrow offers a clear day to buy loads and loads of food an hour to the south, because even worse weather is in the future forecast. It will feel so good to get tons of food in the house and then I won't have to worry about anything. Let the weather do what it will, which it is forecast to do the meanest and worst. Inches of rain on Friday at 50 degrees on top of all this snow, followed immediately by a deep freeze to 10 degrees. Yes, it will be a skating rink around here. Flooding predicted.
I'm reading steadily and happily with Barchester Towers.
So much more to say about reading, but wanted everyone to know why I've been silent. Will catch up soon!
Oh gosh, Judith, that sounds horrendous and I'm one who quite likes a bit of snow. You take care and look forward to hearing about your reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cath.
DeleteHopefully we'll hang on to our internet and I'll be able to post a new entry soon!
So sorry you had to deal with all that snow and bad weather. I haven't ever experienced very much snow or very cold temperatures.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that you are still enjoying Barchester Towers. I haven't read anything by Trollope and I want to read that series.
Hi Tracy,
DeleteAnother doozy of a storm coming with snow followed by inches of rain to be immediately followed by near zero temps. You know, I don't mind SNOW. Send three feet of it, fine. But leave the rain and water out of it, I say.
And I'm up to p. 180 in Barchester Towers and hope I'll get more time to read over the holidays. It's interesting, funny in places, but I think the real hijinks occur in Part 3 of the novel. Parts of it are a bit slow-going for me. But reading 20-25 pages a day works for me, while I have another book going. Merry Christmas to you!
The weather everywhere is frightful, but at least our snow this round has been just 4 inches and not a wholloping 28!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are liking Barchester Towers--it's been awhile since I read it, but did enjoy it although I tended to learn more about the hierarachy of the Church of England than I thought I actually needed to know. Great set of characters, though!
Happy Holidays and happy reading!
Hi Jane,
DeleteThat's great that you were spared from a larger snow drop this time.
And I agree with you completely about all the info about the hierarchy of the Anglicans. Whew! But fascinating characters, very true.
Hi Jane,
DeleteI'm glad you're not heading into the holidays with a horde of snow. Four inches is plenty for a time you might need to travel.
And I wholeheartedly agree that I am learning more about the Anglican hierarchy than I need to know, but as you say, great characters and plot situations.
And Wishing You Loads of Time to Read in the New Year!
Yikes!! The weather is frightful. I hope you don't get flooding near you. Do you have to drive an hour for food? We are moving to the countryside in mid-January and it'll be sort of like a farm or a farm area. Big changes! We've had a week of -15 to -25F. So it's been brisk but I think it's finally leaving town tomorrow! The young dog doesn't notice as long as she has her ball but the old one struggles with these temps even for just a short walk. Stay warm. And Merry Christmas. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteWe do drive an hour once a week to get almost all of our food. In emergencies, there is a small grocery store 12 miles away, but it's not very good--terrible produce, for one thing, but it is a stand-in if we've forgotten to buy a staple.
DeleteSo very cold where you are!! And I bet you've had even colder windchills. And this kind of cold is frustrating, because you can't do one of those nice, long dog walks. We're going up to ten degrees today, but with at minus 21 windchill.
I'm so glad I found your blog this year. Looking forward to sharing your 2023 reads. Merry Christmas!!!
