Oh, Gosh! Can't Find Any Good Reads To Be Published in January 2021--Have You?

 Happy New Year!! I think I'm going to have to go deep-diving into my personal library stacks to find reading for January. I have scoured all the new books coming out and none of them have the slightest appeal. I'm wondering: What are you thinking, and what are you planning for January 2021? Have you discovered books of interest to be published in January and February? I would simply love to know if you have.

    Happy New Year, Judith! I don't tend to read all that many 'just published' or current books so my January reading will be from books I've had for years or bought earlier this year. I'll be doing a post very soon, photo of 2021 shelf has been taken, it's rather mixed! LOL!

    Hi Judith, I'm hoping to read more books off my shelf in 2021 and starting the year with a NYRB Classic called, Sleepless Nights by Elizabeth Hardwick.

    I do have a few January releases I've been eyeing. The Sea Gate, Johnson - A Crooked Tree, Maisson and What Could Be Save, O'Halleron.

      I noticed your post about the Hardwick novel. It piqued my interest, and I've never read anything by her.
      Ah, and the January releases! I'll check out the ones you have mentioned.

    Happy New Year. It is almost here. I always love to plan for the new year's reading.

    These are the books I am planning to read in January 2021: Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian, Black Robe by Brian Moore, and at least a couple of books in the Hercule Poirot series. We are watching all the Poirot episodes and most of them I want to read first, so I am speeding through them and enjoying it. The Master and Commander read is intended to be a slow read (one chapter a week for about three months), but we will see if I decide I have to read faster than that.

    I have a pool of other books to choose from but none of them would be published in 2021. I never look into what is being published and there are only a few authors I would read in the same year the book came out.

      And a very happy New Year to you, Tracy! I'm so interested to hear you plan to read a few more Hercule Poirot mysteries. I am more than halfway through Marie Benedict's new historical novel, The Mystery of Mrs. Christie, which is about the early years of Agatha Christie's marriage and her so-called "mysterious 11-day disappearance," which made all the newspapers throughout England.

    I rarely pay attention to publishing dates. The only 2021 book I do know about and will purchase ASAP is the new Becky Chambers SF novel "The Galaxy, And The Ground Within" that will be coming out in February 2021.

    Otherwise, like Diane above, I will look to my own shelves for most of my reading next year. I found that the pandemic has had at least had that positive influence on me. Though I still buy books, don't get me wrong! :D

      So interested to hear about this SF author and new title. Will look it up!
      I need to plan an archaeological dig into all of my shelves and stacks and book piles to find some exciting reads. I'll note my progress.

    There is a new book by Kristin Cashore (author of Graceline) that I am looking forward to, also The Children's Blizzard by Melanie Benjamin. However, I am like Tracy, I already have a big pile of books waiting for me.

      I'll look up Cashore, and I've seen lots of pre-pub announcements about The Children's Blizzard. A major historian wrote a book about this same topic 8-10 years ago, and I have read that. And I do have loads of unread books, so thanks for the inspiration.

    Judith - I'm so far behind in my reading that I haven't even investigated January and February books! Planning to reread Wharton's The Custom of the Country this month and we'll see what else calls to me. Happy New Year!
