Welcome to Sandy! Woof!

Another quiet month from me. I find it unfathomable that I did not spend it reading much at all. Just bits here and there.
BUT I did spend time searching for a Golden Retriever to join us in our Adirondack home. Lots of time online, and several trips to New England were what it took. We enjoyed the travelling, but it had a nervous edge to it. Would we find a dog that would be the right fit for us?
And we did! Sandy is a two-and-a-half-year-old girl with plenty of spunk. She comes from the same breeder that Sasha and Sophie did. Sandy loves retrieving tennis balls at all hours of the day.  She is very affectionate and is calm (after exercise). She walks beautifully on the leash and doesn't pull! A key point in her favor. We love her to pieces after having her in our home just 8 days. When it's time to rest, she actually prefers to go to her crate for a nap and for overnights. So we are a happy home indeed. "A house is not a home without a Golden." (Little sign by our side door.)

  1. She looks lovely, I'm so glad that you managed to find her. I know that Ken will feel that your home is complete again.

    1. Thank you, Katrina. Yes, I think it's absolutely true. Ken is so enchanted with her (as am I), and we both need a super-affectionate dog to dote over and to dote over us!!

  2. She's beautiful! I hope you will all be very happy together.

After reading 9 books each in the months of June and July, August has seen me read just 3, with 2 on the go at the moment. It's just been a busy month, the main thing being that our 12 year old grandson is with us nearly every day until he goes back to school in September. So less time for reading but we're having some fun cooking together. We also had our grand-daughter here for a week before taking her back to Swansea. We stayed in the area for the weekend so that was nice too. My books will still be waiting for me when summer is over. Enjoy your lovely new dog.

    1. Hi Cath,
I'm so glad to hear about your time with your grandchildren! They are well worth the time spent doing other things besides reading.
Thank you so much for your good wishes for us!

    1. Hi Cath,
I sure as heck don't want to miss a message from you! I hope I have answered your message now. If not, let's keep in touch in September. I hope to be posting much more often than I have been.

    1. Hi Brian,
Sandy is a much longed-for lovable addition to our household. We thrive on our dogs here. But, that being said, they do take up some time--hence my lack of posting lately.
I wish you the best, too.

  5. Yay! I used to have a lab/retriever mix in my life and he would play fetch FOR HOURS if you let him. Congratulations on this new addition to you family. :D

    1. Thank you, Ruthiella!
Sandy is a delight, but I am also so tired! New additions to the house are so wonderful, but tiring, I think. Looking forward to settling in.

  7. SO happy for you!! I have such a sign on the porch, but it says "dog" rather than a particular breed.

  8. You have found just the right dog, and I am sure she is happy too. She has joined your family. I adopted my dog Bounce from a shelter in 2016 and he is such a love.

  9. Judith, I am so sorry I missed this post. What a lovely dog Sandy is. Cats are quite different, but it took our cat Rosie a couple of years to settle in and truly trust us. It has been such a long time since we have had a dog, but we have loved all our pets so much.

    1. Tracy,
That trust bond does take time to fully flourish. We have seen this especially with the adult dogs we have adopted. Trust builds, and builds, and then a few months later grows some more. It is so worthwhile to see that the effort put into building trust eventually pays off big time! So rewarding for humans and the dog.

  10. Judith, I missed the initial post here but, wanted to say how happy I am for you and the family and for Sandy.

I had 2 different bosses over the years who always had a G.Retriver in their lives; they are beautiful dogs.

    1. Diane,
Sorry to be so tardy publishing your comment! I was in Lake Placid for 4 days, while Ken stayed home with Sandy. (We switched off--He went for a week to his cousin's in Maine while I held down the fort.)
In any case, Sandy is a wonderful, wonderfully loving dog. We're having such a good time with her. Her only problem: She is desperate to chew and swallow socks! We've hidden all socks and everything like them. We are very happy, though!!
